What is the Magnificat?
The “Magnificat” is a hymn of praise and thanksgiving recorded in the Gospel of Luke (1:46-55), traditionally known as the Canticle of Mary. It is named after the first line of the hymn in Latin, “Magnificat anima mea Dominum” which means “My soul magnifies the Lord.” In the hymn, Mary praises and thanks God for His goodness and mercy towards her, and for choosing her to be the mother of Jesus Christ.

What is the history of Magnificat?
The mother chapter of Magnificat began in 1981 at the encouragement of Archbishop Philip M. Hannan and Auxiliary Bishop Stanley J. Ott of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Magnificat came to fruition through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and continues to be nurtured by it.
What is the mission of Magnificat?
The mission of Magnificat is to help Catholic women open more and more to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord and to impart the Holy Spirit to one another by their love, service, and sharing the good news of salvation.
How can I become a member of Magnificat?
To become a member of Magnificat, you need to be a woman who strives to incorporate the purpose and objectives of Magnificat in your life, agree to pray for Magnificat and its members, and complete a membership form.
Is there a fee for membership?
No, there are no dues for Magnificat membership. The ministry relies on freewill donations to subsidize its activities.
What are the benefits of being a Magnificat member?
As a Magnificat member, you get to serve the Church by ministering to your sisters through prayer, fellowship, and loving service. You also get to share in the prayers of all the members, meet other women who share your spiritual values, encourage each other in your desire to grow in holiness, and attend and serve at other Magnificat functions.
How often does Magnificat hold meals?
Magnificat holds meals quarterly.
How can I attend a Magnificat meal?
Registration online or by paper form is required to attend a Magnificat meal. There is a registration fee to attend the meal.
What is the role of the Magnificat Service Team?
The Magnificat Service Team is responsible for planning and executing Magnificat events and activities. They also oversee the different Magnificat ministries and coordinate with local Magnificat chapters.
What is a Magnificat chapter?
A Magnificat chapter is a local group of Magnificat members who gather together regularly to pray, engage in fellowship, and serve their community.
How can I start a Magnificat chapter in my area?
To start a Magnificat chapter in your area, you need to contact Magnificat’s central service office to express your interest and receive guidance on the process.
What kind of events does Magnificat host?
Magnificat hosts various events such as meals, chapter prayer gatherings, retreats, Life in the Spirit Seminars, and conferences. Chapter prayer gatherings are held at Saint Paul Parish in Greensburg, Pa, on the second Monday of each month beginning at 6:45pm. These events provide opportunities for members to deepen their faith, receive spiritual nourishment, and connect with other women.
Who can attend Magnificat events?
Magnificat events are open to all women, regardless of their religious affiliation. Men are welcome to attend some events. Small children who are dependent on their mothers are also welcome.
Do I have to be Catholic to join Magnificat?
No, you do not have to be Catholic to join Magnificat. However, the ministry is Catholic in nature and promotes Catholic teachings and practices.
